While passenger car accidents in general represent many of the collisions that occur on our roads each year, there are also a number of other vehicle-related accidents that can cause serious personal injury and property damage.
In cases involving commercial trucks, buses, and vans (which may include FEDEX and UPS trucks, tractors, passenger cars, and similar type of transportation), drivers are often not the only people who are injured.
It is also worth noting that motorcycle collisions vs. truck collisions are also beginning to appear more frequently due to the increase in the number of motorcyclists who are obtaining their licenses and using the roads each year.
Some of the most common types of accidents include:
- Motorcycle accidents have increased exponentially in Florida in the last seven years. The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that in the three years following Florida’s decision to revoke its mandatory helmet use law in 2000, there were 933 motorcyclists killed. The number of deaths from motorcycle accidents in Florida increased by 81% an increase of 515 motorcyclists killed from 1997 to 1999. In an update in 2006, NHTSA reported that motorcycle accident deaths have increased for the seventh consecutive year .
- Tractor trailer accidents result in thousands of injuries and catastrophic deaths in the United States each year. Tractor trailers, 18-wheelers, large trucks, fire trucks, semi-trailer trucks and other large commercial trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds account for the majority of automobile accidents, deaths and injuries on the country’s roads.
